Reconstructive Surgery Training

Through Project Life, Dr. David Shaye has been working as a Facial Plastic & Reconstructive surgeon in Rwanda for the past 10 years.

As faculty at the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali, Dr Shaye operates on patients and teaches residents and medical students facial plastic surgery.

In conjunction with the Rwandan faculty and his colleagues, they treat a variety of patients with congenital facial deformities, traumatic injuries of the face, and head and neck tumors.

100+ African surgeons have attended the facial trauma course since its conception in 2019.

Dr. Shaye conducts surgical outreach programs with attending doctors to bring specialty surgery to Rwanda’s district hospitals.

In the last decade, the number of Rwandan Head & Neck Surgeons has doubled.

Surgery is an international passport to people around the world

Project Life International provides reconstructive surgical training in Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Nepal.

Dr. Shaye visits the Cleft Lip and Burn Center in Nepal. He has been helping Dr. Shankar Rai to bridge the gap between accessible surgical care and the rural Himalayan region. Dr. Rai and Dr. Shaye were featured on CNN for their efforts; providing surgery in Nepal’s rural areas.

Project Life has been providing surgical training in Zimbabwe and is preparing to directly sponsor facial reconstructive surgeries in Zimbabwe.
